Sonia Rosalie Kaplan Sungail was born May 23, 1928 in Nevada, Iowa.
She and her husband Doug Sungail met during USO activities on Treasure Island, San Francisco. They were married March 26, 1950, lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and had four children.
Sonia was active volunteering for Scouting with her children and her sense of service continued when she and Doug moved to Auburn. Sonia volunteered many hours and much of her devotion to the Placer County Nature Center for 15 years. She won a coveted national award for Volunteer of the Year for REI which brought proceeds to the Nature Center and much pride to her family.
When her beloved husband Doug passed in 2013, Sonia moved from their retirement property in Saddleback to a comfortable home nearby.
She passed on to a better world on January 8, 2015 surrounded by all that was familiar to her in the most peaceful manner possible.
She will be very much missed by her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service in her honor on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn, Calif., at 1:00 pm.
