Taught several terms of school before marrying, then settled in Zion, IL in 1902*, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Dowie. There he was a clerk in the retail stores at Zion.
After marrying, he and Eva lived in Ashland, WI for about a year, then returned to Vernon, MN, then lived in Ledyard, IA for a number of years before moving to Zion.

* His son, Arthur, wrote a piece called "Six Generations in My Life Time, in which he states that the family moved to Zion when he was "about 3 years old" which would have been around 1904. He also says that he remembers "a house being moved onto a lot at 2408 Gideon Ave. in Zion which became our home."

Note: one source has his death as Jan 9th, but brother Robert's autobiography, and his wife Evangeline's death notice, states that he died in May. His cemetery interment record has the date of death as May 9, 1921. His death was shortly after the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1920, so that might have been the cause. The interment record also has the cause of death as "Pulmonary Tuberculosis"
His son died just 8 months after him at age 18.

His occupation as listed on son Arthur Benson's birth certificate is "Grain Buyer"
