When his sister, Lydia Semans, died in childbirth in 1895, he took on her child, Minnie Marie, called Mimo later in life. In the 1900 census, Augustine and Catherine are listed with their 2 daughters, Georgia and Jessie, along with *niece* Minnie, age 5. By the 1910 census, Catherine had died and daughter Georgia was no longer in the household, so only Augustine and daughter Jessie are listed, but also with now-*daughter* Minnie, age 15. Apparently Minnie had been officially adopted and is now called a daughter rather than niece.
