At dawn on a beautiful Sunday morning Jean went home to be with the Lord….Jean Isabel Frauenholtz was born July 14, 1922, in Madelia, MN, the daughter of Arthur P. and Fern B. (Priegel) Frauenholtz. She attended grade school in several towns in Iowa, graduating from St. James High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Russell James Smith on October 25, 1942 at the St. James Catholic Church parsonage. Jean and Russell farmed for 20 years in the St. James area, moving to town in 1967. Jean worked as a receptionist for an optometrist for six years, then as a deputy Clerk of Courts for 8 years and Court Administrator of Watonwan County for 7 years, retiring in 1988.Jean was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, CCW, St. Theresa Study Club and especially as a Extraodinary Communion Minister to the shut-ins. She was also a member of the American Legion Axillary, Birthday Club and Class of 39 Club. Jean enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, cooking and baking. She loved get togethers with friends and family for lunch, some coffee and dessert or perhaps a bit of shopping. She was a whiz at word games and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.Jean is survived by her daughter Linda (Bill) Voss of Slayton, grandchildren Lisa (Nate) Graphenteen of Hadley, Amy (Chet) Yackley of Tracy, Erin Voss and Brady King of Sioux Falls, SD, Michelle (Mark) Tenney of St. James, Patricia (Eric) Nygaard of North Dakota, Christine Flower of Iowa, Jon (Sue) Smith of Oklee, Matthew (Vicki) Smith of Deer River, great-grandchildren Brynn Graphenteen, Tanner Graphenteen, Morgan Yackley, Ty Yackley, Emmit Yackley, Wyatt Yackley, Jessica (Ryan) Stotts, Ashley (Jesse) Stratton, Maisie Januszewski, Patrick Lundeen, Jackson Lundeen, Mason Lundeen, Wilson Lundeen, Dylan Sorg, Corbin Flower, Olivia Flower, Stephanie Smith, Sami Smith, Megan Smith, Molly Smith, Haylee Smith, Jessica Smith, Bobby Smith, Theodore Smith and Ernie Smith, 6 great-great-grandchildren, sister Betty Menne of Red Wing, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Dean (Deanna) Hoffman of St. James, Lorraine Podraza of Illinois, and Bonnie Frauenholtz of Fresno, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband Russell, sons Jim (1963) and Tom (2013), brother Bob, brothers-in-law Jerry Menne, John Prodraza and Kenneth Smith, Sisters-in-law Cleo Scott and Rachel (Dennis) Behrends.
