On her husband's death in 1930, "Mantha took the children to Kirksville, Missouri, where they went to work and put themselves through college. Mantha herself went to college and graduated and graduated when she was about fifty, the same year as her son Robert. She subsequently taught school. Mantha died March 6, 1943, the same year as her own mother." (Robert Young biography)
