When Carol was 4, her father died, and a year later her mom was killed in a car accident. She and sister Joyce were then raised by their uncle Erwin and Aunt Ethel.

NOTE, Arthur Benson Rendall, in his writing, "Six Generations in My Life Time", states on page 3 that the 2 sisters were raised by his mom (Evangeline Rendall)
