Job was the first of 12 children, and the only one born in England. He was named after his deceased grandfather on his mother's side, and was called Apsey. He was 1 when his parents emigrated to the U.S. He was 5'9" with grey eyes and dark hair. Attended Lawrence College (Appleton, WI). Taught school for a short time and then enlisted in the Union Army, Civil War.

One source says he enlisted Nov, 1861 in the 2nd Wisconsin Regiment, but it was more likely Aug 18, 1862, in Oconomowoc, WI, Co. C Wisconsin Volunteers, 28th Infantry Regiment (per the accompanying photo). While enlisted he took sick of the "southern fever" and died at Helena, Arkansas as a Private in the Army.
